Henning, Carl Wilhelm

Henning, Carl Wilhelm, German conductor and composer; b. Öls, Jan. 31, 1784; d. Berlin, March 1867. He was a student of Seidler and Giirrlich. He spent his entire career in Berlin, where he became a violinist in the orch. of the Hofoper (1807) and in the Hofkapelle (1811). After serving as Konzertmeister (1822–24) and conductor (1824–26) of the Königstädter-Theater, he was conductor of the Phil. Soc. concerts (1832–36). In 1836 he was named Royal Musikdirektor, and in 1840 Royal Kapellmeister. In 1848 he was pensioned. He composed the opera Die Rosenmädchen (Berlin, 1825), ballets, incidental music, and chamber pieces.
