Henotikon (Gk., ‘decree of unity’). The christological formula sponsored by the Byzantine emperor Zeno in 482 to conciliate the Monophysite party in the E. Empire. By the formula ‘Christ was one and now two’ it sought to avoid speaking of the number of ‘natures’ in Christ.
