Henneberg, Johann Baptist

Henneberg, Johann Baptist , Austrian organist, conductor, and composer; b. Vienna, Dec. 6, 1768; d. there, Nov. 26, 1822. He succeeded his father as organist at Vienna’s Schottenstift. In 1790 he became a conductor and composer at Schikaneder’s Freihaus Theater in Vienna, and later at his Theater an der Wien. In 1803 he was made organist to Count Esterházy in Eisenstadt, and subsequently was named his Kapellmeister in 1811. After returning to Vienna, he served as choirmaster at the Am Hof church before being made court organist in 1818. He composed many Singspiels, of which the most successful was Die Waldmänner (Vienna, Oct. 14, 1793). Among his other works were orch. music and sacred scores.
