Haquinius, (Johan) Algot
Haquinius, (Johan) Algot, Swedish pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Stockholm, July 30, 1886; d. there, Feb. 6, 1966. He studied piano with Hilda Thegerstrom and Lennart Lundberg and composition with Ernst Ellberg at the Stockholm Cons. (1898–1906), then pursued training in composition with Johan Lindegren and piano with Moszkowski in Paris and Friedman in Berlin. He had a distinguished career as a pianist in Sweden and also taught. In 1941 he became a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music. His works, which include orch. pieces, chamber music, piano pieces, and songs, effectively combine Romantic and expressionist elements.
