Grünfeld, Alfred
Grünfeld, Alfred, Austrian pianist and composer, brother of Heinrich Grünfeld; b. Prague, July 4, 1852; d. Vienna, Jan. 4, 1924. He studied in Prague, and at Kullak’s Academy in Berlin. He settled in Vienna in 1873, where he established himself as a pianist and teacher; also made tours in other European countries. He composed an operetta, Der Lebemann (Vienna, Jan. 16, 1903), and the comic opera Die Schönen von Fogaras (Dresden, 1907). He also made brilliant arrangements for piano of waltzes by Johann Strauss Jr., and also publ. piano studies and various other pieces.
