Greene, Harry Plunket
Greene, Harry Plunket (b Old Connaught House, Co. Wicklow, 1865; d London, 1936). Irish bass-baritone. Sang in London concerts from 1888 (début in Messiah at Stepney), opera from 1890, but later confined himself to songs and oratorio. First interpreter of songs, some written for him, by Parry, Stanford, and Vaughan Williams. First singer of bass parts in Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, 1900. Later became teacher. Wrote biography of Stanford and Interpretation in Song (1924). Married Parry's daughter Gwendolen, 1899.
