Gray, Alan
Gray, Alan, English organist and composer; b. York, Dec. 23, 1855; d. Cambridge, Sept. 27, 1935. He took degrees in law and music from Trinity Coll., Cambridge (Mus.D., 1889). He was music director of Wellington Coll. (1883-92), conductor of the Cambridge Univ. Musical Soc. (1892-1912), and organist at Trinity Coll. (1892-1930). He wrote 5 cantatas, a Coronation March, chamber music, and many organ works. He was also an ed. for the Purcell Soc. Vaughan Williams was one of his students.
