Goldsborough, Arnold (Wainwright) (b Gomersal, 1892; d Tenbury Wells, 1964). Eng. keyboard-player, conductor, and teacher. After being sub-org. at Manchester Cath., became org., St Anne's, Soho, 1920–3, ass. org. Westminster Abbey 1920–7, teacher at RCM from 1923, dir. of mus. Morley Coll. 1924–9, org., St Martin-in-the-Fields 1924–35. Founded Goldsborough Orch. 1948 for perf. of mus. by Purcell, Handel, Bach, etc., and himself played hpd. and continuo. In 1960 it was renamed ECO.
