Fritz, Gaspard, Swiss violinist, teacher, and composer; b. Geneva, Feb. 18, 1716; d. there, March 23, 1783. He was a student in Turin of G.B. Somis, and then won distinction as a violin virtuoso in Geneva and Paris; he also engaged in teaching. His worthy output in the early Classical manner includes 6 syms. (c. 1770–71) and some 30 cantatas.
