Fisk, Eliot (Hamilton)
Fisk, Eliot (Hamilton), outstanding American guitarist; b. Philadelphia, Aug. 10, 1954. He studied with Oscar Ghiglia at the Aspen School of Music (1970–76); also studied with Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller at Yale Univ. (B.A., 1972; M.M., 1977). In 1976 he made his recital debut at N.Y/s Alice Tully Hall. After winning the Gargano classical guitar competition in Italy in 1980, he appeared as a soloist with orchs., as a recitalist, and as a chamber music artist. He was on the faculty at the Aspen (Colo.) School of Music (1973–82), Yale Univ. (1977–82), and the Marines Coll. of Music in N.Y. (1978–82); in 1982 he became a prof, at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik. He has expanded the repertoire of his instrument by preparing his own brilliant transcriptions of works by Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart, Paganini et al.
