Ferretti, Giovanni

Ferretti, Giovanni, Italian composer; b. c. 1540; d. after 1609. He was maestro di cappella at Ancona Cathedral (1575–79), the Santa Casa, Loreto (1580–82), in Gemona (1586–88), in Cividale del Friuli (1589), and once more at the Santa Casa, Loreta (1596–1603). He publ. seven vols. of napolitane (Venice, 1567–85), some of the early ones being so popular that they carried his name as far as England, where they proved influential in the development of the English madrigal style.
