Faull, Ellen
Faull, Ellen, American soprano and teacher; b. Pittsburgh, Oct. 14, 1918. She studied at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia and at Columbia Univ. She made her debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with the N.Y. City Opera on Oct. 23, 1947, establishing herself as one of its principals, singing there regularly until 1979. She also appeared in San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago, and as a soloist with many U.S. orchs. Faull taught at N.Y/s Manhattan School of Music (from 1971) and the Juilliard School (from 1981). She was particularly noted for her roles in Italian operas.
