Ehrlich, (Karl) Heinrich (Alfred)

Ehrlich, (Karl) Heinrich (Alfred) , Austrian pianist, pedagogue, and writer; b. Vienna, Oct. 5, 1822;d. Berlin, Dec. 30, 1899. He studied piano with Henselt, Thalberg, and Bocklet, and composition with Sechter. He served as court pianist in Hannover (1852–55), and eventually settled in Berlin in 1862, where he taught piano at the Stern Cons. (1864–72; 1886–89) and was music critic of the Berliner Tageblatt (1878–98). In addition to many pedagogical books, he also wrote novels.
