Davidov, Stepan Ivanovich

Davidov, Stepan Ivanovich , Russian composer; b. 1777; d. St. Petersburg, May 22, 1825. He studied with Giuseppe Sarti in St. Petersburg and was subsequently active as a singing teacher, repetiteur, and composer at the Drama School there. After serving as music director to Count Sheremetev, he was a singing teacher at the Moscow Drama School. He was one of the leading Russian composers of music for the stage in his day.
