Daniel, Salvador (real name, Francisco Daniel; also known as Salvador-Daniel)
Daniel, Salvador (real name, Francisco Daniel; also known as Salvador-Daniel) , French composer and political revolutionary; b. Bourges, Feb. 17, 1831; killed during the Paris Commune, May 23, 1871. For a brief time he was director of the Paris Cons, under the Commune. He taught music in an Arab school in Algiers, and studied native folk songs of North Africa. He wrote a valuable book, La Musique arabe (Algiers, 1863; Eng. tr., 1915, as The Music and Musical Instruments of the Arabs}.
