Prof. of counterpoint Schola Cantorum 1935–64, dir. 1957–64. On mus. staff Fr. radio from 1939, mus. dir. Fr. TV (ORTF) from 1968. Many comps. incl. La vie intérieure, org. (1932); ballet (with Jolivet), L'Infante et le monstre (1938); operas Andrea del Sarto (1968), Ondine (1982), and La reine morte (1987); dialogue Dans la nuit, sop., bar., orch.
