Dalla Viola, Francesco , Italian composer; b. Ferrara, date unknown; d. there, March 1568. He sang at Ferrara Cathedral (c. 1522–26). A teacher of Ercole II, he also found a patron in the latter’s brother, Cardinal Ippolito II; he was given a benefice by Ercole II in 1553. He served as maestro di cappella at the Ferrara court (from 1559). He publ. II primo libro di madrigali for 4 Voices (Venice, 1550); several of his sacred works are also extant.
