Dalla Rizza, Gilda

Dalla Rizza, Gilda , Italian soprano; b. Verona, Oct. 2, 1892; d. Milan, July 4, 1975. She received her musical training in Bologna where she made her operatic debut as Charlotte in Werther in 1912; in 1915 she sang at La Scala in Milan; Puccini so admired her singing that he created the role of Magda in La Rondine for her (Monte Carlo, March 27, 1917). She sang in Rome (1919), at London’s Covent Garden (1920), and again at La Scala (1923–39); then taught voice at the Venice Cons. (1939–55). Her students included Anna Moffo and Gianna d’Angelo. She was married to the tenor Agostino Capuzzo (1889–1963). Her most famous role was Violetta.
