Glyndebourne 1970–83, dir. of prods. 1971–81 (six Strauss prods. in that time), working with such designers as Erté, Hugh Casson, and David Hockney, and incl. f. Brit. p. of The Visit of the Old Lady. Gen. admin. Scottish Opera 1981–6, art. dir. 1985–6, incl. f. Brit. p. of Cavalli's Egisto. Dir. of Prod., CG, from 1988. Notable Strauss, Mozart, and Stravinsky prods. NY Met début 1982 (Il barbiere di Siviglia). Has worked in world's leading opera houses, producing Daphne in Munich (1986), and the 1st vers. of Ariadne auf Naxos in Salzburg (1991). Prod. Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims and Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten (both CG 1992).
