Cochrane, Michael

Cochrane, Michael, jazz pianist, composer, educator; b. Peekskill, N.Y., Sept. 4, 1948. He attended Boston Univ. (B.A., 1970). He has resided in the Tri-state area since 1974 and has performed or recorded with Sonny Fortune, Michael Brecker, Chico Freeman, Yoron Israel, Hannibal Peterson, the Spirit of Life Ensemble, and Eddie Gomez. He is a member of Lines of Reason, a co-operative band with Calvin Hill, David Gross, and Alan Nelson. He has been a part-time instructor at N.Y.U. since the fall of 1985. He has received two fellowship grants in jazz performance from the N.E.A. In 1999 he received a grant from the Puffin Foundation Ltd. to complete a project that combines a jazz piano trio with a string quartet
