Capricornus, Samuel Friedrich
Capricornus, Samuel Friedrich, Bohemian-born German composer; b. Schertitz, Dec. 21, 1628; d. Stuttgart, Nov. 10, 1665. He received training in music, theology, languages, and philosophy. In 1651 he became director of music of the churches and at the gymnasium in Pressburg. From 1657 he served as Kapellmeister at the Wurttemberg court in Stuttgart. He composed operas, ballets, instrumental pieces, and sacred vocal works.
