Buchanan, Isobel
Buchanan, Isobel, Scottish soprano; b. Glasgow, March 15, 1954. She studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, graduating in 1974. In 1976 she made her operatic debut as Pamina with the Australian Opera in Sydney, where she sang until 1978 when she made her Glyndebourne Festival debut in the same role and as Micaela at the Vienna State Opera. In 1979 she appeared at London’s Covent Garden and at the Santa Fe (N.Mex.) Opera. In 1981 she sang at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. In subsequent years, she appeared with various opera companies and toured widely as a concert artist. Among her most admired roles are Adina, Zerlina, Donna Elvira, Susanna, and Fiordiligi.
