Brockway, Howard A.
Brockway, Howard A., American pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Brooklyn, Nov. 22, 1870; d. N.Y., Feb. 20, 1951. He studied with K. Barth (piano) and O. Boise (composition) in Berlin (1890–95). He taught privately in N.Y. (1895-1903; 1910-25), and at the Peabody Cons, in Baltimore (1903–10) and the David Mannes School of Music in N.Y (from 1925). With L. Wyman, he ed. 2 vols, of Appalachian folk songs: Lonesome Tunes (N.Y., 1916) and 20 Kentucky Mountain Songs (Boston, 1920).
