Böhme, Kurt (b Dresden, 1908; d Munich, 1989). Ger. bass. Début Bautzen 1929. Member of Dresden Opera 1930–50, creating roles of Dominik in Arabella (1933) and Vanuzzi in Die schweigsame Frau (1935). Sang Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier over 500 times, his first being at La Scala in 1942. Salzburg Fest. 1941–59. Member of Bavarian State Opera, Munich, from 1950, Vienna State Opera from 1955. CG début 1936 (with Dresden Opera), returning as guest 1956–60. Sang at CG with Bavarian State Opera 1972. NY Met début 1954; Bayreuth 1952, 1963–4.
