Bettolü, Vincenzo
Bettolü, Vincenzo, Italian bass; b. Melegnano, July 1, 1881; d. there, Nov. 4, 1954. He made his operatic debut as Silva in 1902 in Pinerolo. In 1905 he made his first appearance at Milan’s La Scala, where he was regularly engaged from 1926 to 1940. He also sang at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires from 1910. In 1923 he appeared as Gurnemanz in the first Spanish mounting of Parsifal in Barcelona. In 1934 he sang Don Alfonso in the first season of the Glyndebourne Festival. He first appeared at London’s Covent Garden in 1935. Bettoni was especially admired for his portrayals of roles in Rossini’s operas.
