Bernabei, Ercole
Bernabei, Ercole, Italian composer, father of Giuseppe Antonio Bernabei; b. Caprarola, Papal States, 1622; d. Munich (buried), Dec. 6, 1687. He was a pupil of Orazio Benevoli, whom he succeeded in 1672 as chapel master at the Vatican; in 1674 he became court conductor in Munich. He wrote 5 operas, which were produced in Munich, and publ. a book of madrigals, Concerto madrigalesco (1669). Other works include masses, offertories, Psalms, and other sacred music.
