Baltzar, Thomas
Baltzar, Thomas, German violinist and composer; b. Lübeck, c. 1630; d. London (buried), July 27, 1663. He was a member of a family of German musicians. In 1653 he was made a chamber violinist to Queen Christina of Sweden. About 1655 he went to England, where he established himself as a soloist at private musical gatherings. In 1661 he was named a musician-in-ordinary for the violin in the King’s Private Musick. He also composed several works for violin.
