Antoni, Antonio d’
Antoni, Antonio d’, Italian conductor and composer; b. Palermo, June 25, 1801; d. (suicide) Trieste, Aug. 18, 1859. He studied with his grandfather and with his father, both of whom were musicians, and appeared as conductor of his own Mass for St. Cecilia’s Day when he was 12. He also conducted the premiere of his first opera, Un duello, in Palermo at the age of 16, and, after touring as a conductor in Italy, France, and England, scored notable success with his opera Amina ossia L’Orfanella di Ginevra (Trieste, Carnival 1825). He settled in Trieste and became conductor of the Società Filarmonico-Dramatica (1829).
