Andriessen, Jurriaan

Andriessen, Jurriaan, Dutch composer, son of Hendrik (Franciscus) Andriessen, brother of Louis (Joseph) Andriessen, and nephew of Willem (Chris-tiaan Nicolaas) Andriessen; b. Haarlem, Nov. 15, 1925; d. The Hague, Aug. 23, 1996. After training in theory from his father, he studied conducting with Otterloo at the Utrecht Cons, (graduated, 1947). Following studies in Paris, he was a composition student of Copland at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood (summers, 1949-50). His television opera Kalchas (Dutch TV, June 28, 1959) was the first such score to be produced in the Netherlands.
