The Statement ★★ 2003 (R)

Michael Caine plays Pierre Brossard, a Frenchman who helped the Nazis in the execution of several Jews during World War II. As a wanted war criminal, Brossard has been eluding authorities for years with the help of arch-conservative extremists within the Catholic church. While an interesting story, the movie is schizophrenic and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Adapted from the novel by Brian Moore, it is actually based on the true story of Paul Touvier. 120m/C VHS, DVD . CA GB FR Michael Caine, Tilda Swinton, Jeremy Northam, Alan Bates, Charlotte Rampling, John Neville, Ciaran Hinds, Frank Finlay, William Hutt, Matt Craven, Noam Jenkins, Peter Wight, Colin Salmon, David de Keyser; D: Norman Jewison; W: Ronald Harwood; C: Kevin Jewison; M: Normand Corbeil.
