Schtonk ★★ 1992

Hermann Willie is a down-and-out journalist who thinks he's come upon the find of the century when he's given what are supposedly Hitler's diaries. Based on the 1983 scandal when the German publication “Der Stern” paid $5 million and printed what turned out to be not-very-clever forgeries. Director Dietl mocks the greedy gullibility of the journal, the ingenuity of the forger, as well as the nostalgia of the ex-and neo-Nazis of the modern Germany. The title is a meaningless expletive uttered by Charlie Chaplin in “The Great Dictator.” German with subtitles. 115m/C VHS, DVD . GE Goetz George, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Rolf Hoppe; D: Helmut Dietl; W: Helmut Dietl. Berlin Intl. Film Fest. '92: Actor (George), Director (Dietl), Film.
