Local detective Gene Reardon (Hauer) is assigned to investigate the kidnapping of a wealthy man from a small town. But soon the FBI is called in, including Reardon's ex-wife Wallis Longworth (Porizkova). Then the victim turns up dead on Reardon's property and he's suddenly suspect numero uno.
