partita
partita (It.). Strict mus. meaning of this term is a variation, the total comp. being the plural partite. But the ungrammatical custom of applying partita to a composite work such as a suite has developed from the 6 Partitas in Bach's Klavierübung (1731). Bach's 3 suites for solo vn. are actually termed on the autograph score Partia.
