Mild but creepy pathologist Slade (Palance) rents an attic room from Mrs. Harley and moons over her actress daughter Lily (Smith) in late 1880s London. About the same time Lily starts finding Slade attractive and interesting, Mrs. Harvey starts suspecting him of being Jack the Ripper.
