Poorly updated cable version of the sci-fi film finds photographer Jack Putnam (Kerwin) heading home to his isolated desert community. A freakish blue lightning storm causes big changes amongst the desert dwellers who are sucked into a glowing ground mass and reemerge possessed by shape-shifting aliens, who need the human bodies to rebuild their crashed space ship.
