The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing ★★ 1955

Rather genteel reworking of a 1906 New York society scandal. Evelyn Nesbit (Collins) is a hotsy showgirl who's being courted by famous married architect Stanford White (Milland). However, Evelyn marries wealthy-but-unstable society boy Harry Thaw (Granger). Harry is pathologically jealous of Evelyn's relationship with White and shoots him dead in public. Then he uses an insanity plea (and family money) to avoid the death penalty in the ensuing trial. Collins is catnip but her character is depicted as boringly naive. 109m/C DVD .
