Fame Is the Spur ★★½ 1947

A lengthy but interesting look at the way power corrupts, plus an insight into the Conservative versus Labor dynamics of British government. Redgrave is a poor, idealistic worker who decides to help his fellow workers by running for Parliament. There, he falls prey to the trappings of office with surprising consequences. Look hard for Tomlinson, who went on to star in “Mary Poppins” and “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” for Disney. 116m/B VHS . GB Michael Redgrave, Rosamund John, Bernard Miles, Hugh Burden, Guy Verney, Carla Lehmann, Sir Seymour Hicks, David Tomlinson; D: Roy Boulting.
