The Defenders: Taking the First ★★½ 1998 (R)
Don (Bridges) and M.J. (Plimpton) defend a student accused of beating a Latino to death. Their client claims he was incited by white supremist leader, John Walker (Casnoff), and agrees to a plea bargain. This enrages the victim's brother, who files a wrongful death suit against Walker and chooses Don to represent the case. Now the team must try to prove Walker's culpability without disputing his First Amendment rights to free speech. 96m/C VHS . Beau Bridges, Martha Plimpton, Philip Casnoff, Jeremy London; D: Andy Wolk; W: Andy Wolk, Peter Wolk; C: John Newby; M: Mark Isham. CABLE
