That Darn Cat ★★½ 1996 (PG)

Innocuous Disney remake of the 1965 Disney comedy falls into the “why bother” category. Bored 16-year-old Patti (Ricci) finds some unexpected excitement when her alley-wandering cat D.C. (for Darned Cat) returns home from a prowl with a wristwatch around his neck. Turns out it's a clue in a bungled kidnapping and Patti manages to convince rookie FBI agent Zeke (Doug) to investigate. Jones, who played the FBI agent in the original, is the wealthy husband of would-be kidnap victim Cannon. Ricci's appealing as the sarcastic teen and Elvis the cat has a certain scrappy charm as well. Based on the novel “Undercover Cat” by Mildred and Gordon Gordon. 89m/C VHS, DVD . Christina Ricci, Doug E. Doug, Dean Jones, George Dzundza, Peter Boyle, Michael McKean, Bess Armstrong, Dyan Cannon, John Ratzenberger, Estelle Parsons, Rebecca Schull, Thomas F. Wilson, Brian Haley, Mark Christopher Lawrence; D: Bob Spiers; W: Scott M. Alexander, Larry Karaszewski; C: Jerzy Zielinski; M: Richard Gibbs.
