The Color of Freedom ★½ Goodbye Bafana 2007 (R)

In 1968, Afrikaaner James Gregory (Fiennes) takes a job at Robben Island where Nelson Mandela (Haysbert) is a political prisoner. A firm believer in apartheid, Gregory becomes one of Mandela's principal guards because he can speak Xhosa and thus censor his prisoner's communications. But over a 20-year period, Gregory begins to change his views. Static storytelling, adapted from Gregory's memoirs, that's too noble to retain interest. 118m/C DVD . GB SA Joseph Fiennes, Dennis Haysbert, Diane Kruger; D: Bille August; W: Greg Latter; C: Robert Fraisse; M: Dario Marianelli.
