Blood & Wine ★★½ 1996 (R)

Miami wine merchant Alex (Nicholson) gets involved with terminally ill safecracker Victor (Caine) to steal a necklace worth a cool million. Meanwhile he must deal with his crumbling marriage to Suzanne (Davis) and the bitter relationship with his stepson Jason (Dorff), who has eyes for both the necklace and his Cuban mistress (Lopez). Characterizations and strong performances (particularly by Nicholson and Caine) haul the sometimes lumbering plot to its violent conclusion. Promoted as the third part of a “dysfunctional family trilogy” with “Five Easy Pieces” and “The King of Marvin's Gardens.” Seventh time Nicholson has worked with director Rafelson. 100m/C VHS, DVD . Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine, Judy Davis, Stephen Dorff, Jennifer Lopez, Harold Perrineau Jr.; D: Bob Rafelson; W: Nick Villiars, Allison Cross; C: Newton Thomas (Tom) Sigel; M: Stephen Cohen.
