Another Country ★★½ 1984

Mitchell's adaptation of his play based on the life of Guy Burgess, who became a spy for the Soviet Union. Guy Bennett (Everett) is an English boarding school upperclassman whose affected mannerisms and barely disguised homosexuality cause dissension among his schoolmates, while his one friend, Tommy Judd (Firth), is a fervant Marxist. Rather fancifully depicted and loving recreation of 1930s English life. Although the film is inferior to the award-winning play, director Kanievska manages to transform a piece into a solid film, and Everett's performance as Bennett/Burgess is outstanding. 90m/C VHS, DVD .
