Princess of Portugal . Name variations: Maria Anna of Portugal. Born on July 13, 1861, in Bronnbach; died on July 31, 1942, in New York; daughter of Adelheid (1831–1909) and Miguel also known as Michael I (1802–1866), king of Portugal (r. 1828–1834); married William IV (1852–1912), grand duke of Luxemburg (of the House of Nassau), on June 21, 1893; children: Marie Adelaide of Luxemburg (1894–1924); Hilda (b. 1897, who later married Prince Adolf of Schwartzenberg); Antoinette of Luxemburg (1899–1954, who married Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria); Elisabeth (1901–1950, who married Prince Ludwig-Philipp of Thurn and Taxis); Sophie of Nassau (1902–1941); and Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxemburg (b. 1896).
