Maria of Circassia (d. 1569)

Russian empress . Name variations: Maria Tscherkaski. Died on September 1, 1569; daughter of Temrink Tscherkaski; became second wife of Ivan IV the Terrible (1530–1584), tsar of Russia (r. 1533–1584), in August 1561; children: Vassilli (1563–1563). Ivan IV also married Anastasia Romanova (d. 1560) in Februaryruary 1547; Marta Sobakin (d. 1571) in October 1571; Anna Koltoskaia (d. 1626) in April 1572 (divorced 1574); Anna Vassiltschikov around 1574 (divorced in 1576); Maria Nagaia (d. 1612); and Vassilissa Malentieva around 1576 (divorced 1577).
