Honoria (c. 420–?)

Roman princess. Name variations: Honoria Augusta; Justa Grata Honoria. Born around 420; daughter of Constantius III, emperor of Rome, and Galla Placidia (c. 390–450); sister of Valentinian III.

Honoria was born around 420, the daughter of Constantius III, emperor of Rome, and Galla Placidia (c. 390–450). Within a space of two years, Honoria caused two scandals in the Roman palace. The first was her affair with her steward Eugenius; he was executed, she was banished to a convent in Constantinople in 434. When she was finally thought to be safely betrothed, she sent her ring to Attila the Hun, reputedly seeking marriage. Attila used the message as an excuse to invade Italy in 452, while demanding his "marriage portion" of the Roman empire.
