Bailey, Mary (1890–1960)

British pilot. Name variations: Lady Mary Bailey; Dame Mary Bailey. Born in England in 1890; died in 1960; daughter of 5th Lord Rossmore; married Sir Abe Bailey, in 1911.

After obtaining a pilot's license in 1927, Lady Mary Bailey made a solo flight from Croydon, England, to Cape Town, South Africa, from March 1928 to January 1929. She was awarded the Britannia Trophy and Dame of the British Empire (DBE) in 1930.
