Adams, Léonie Fuller (1899–1988)

American poet and educator. Name variations: Leonie. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 9, 1899; died of heart disease in New Milford, Connecticut, on June 27, 1988; married William Troy, in 1933.

Best known for her lyric poetry, Léonie Adams has penned collections that include Those Not Elect (1925), High Falcon (1929), and This Measure (1933). She won several awards, including the Harriet Monroe Poetry Award, the Shelley Memorial Award, and the Bollingen Prize. Adams taught and lectured at various colleges, including Sarah Lawrence, Bennington, and Columbia University, and was poetry consultant to the Library of Congress (1948–49).
