Wolfenstein, Martha (1869–1905)

Prussian-born short-story writer. Born 1869 in Insterburg, Prussia; died 1905 in Cleveland, OH; dau. of Samuel Wolfenstein and Bertha Brieger.

After mother's death, looked after siblings and later worked as matron of Cleveland Jewish Orphan Asylum run by father; published short stories in Lippincott's Magazine and Outlook which were collected as Idylls of the Gass (1901); stories from Cleveland Jewish Review and Observer published as The Renegade and Other Stories (1905).
