Irish novelist. Name variations: Jemima Montgomery; Jemima Tautphoeus. Born Jemima Montgomery onOctober 23, 1807, at Seaview, in County Donegal, Ireland; died on November 12, 1893; daughter of a landowner; educated at home; married Baron von Tautphoeus of Marquartstein (chamberlain to the king of Bavaria), in 1838 (died 1885); children: one son who also died in 1885.

Born the daughter of a landowner in 1807, at Seaview, in County Donegal, Ireland, Jemima Montgomery married Baron von Tautphoeus of Marquartstein, chamberlain to the king of Bavaria, in 1838. The baroness lived in Germany for the remainder of her life, authoring several novels that dealt with the manners and history of the Bavarian scene. Her principal works include The Initials (1850), which is considered her best; Cyrilla (1854); Quits (1857); and At Odds (1863). Her novels have been described as "delightful, brilliant, sympathetic, and full of charm," and serve as an accurate portrayal of their time.
