Stewart, Sophie (1908–1977)

Scottish stage, radio, and screen actress. Born Mar 5, 1908, in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland; died June 6, 1977, in London, England; m. Ellis Irving.

Originally pursued a career in ballet until an accident intervened; had long and successful career on stage in England and Australia, especially in the title role of Marigold; made over 40 films, including Things to Come, Murder in the Old Red Barn, As You Like It, Nurse Edith Cavell, Things to Come, My Son, My Son! and The Inheritance. Nominated for TV Actress of the Year in Melbourne, Australia, for her performance in "Fly By Night" (1962).
